Sea turtles at Dos Ceibas' beach

At Dos Ceibas beach you can watch the amazing egg-laying and birth of sea turtles. At nighttime, the turtles wander onto the beach to spots far from high tides to dig 1 to 2-feet deep into the sand with their hind fins to lay anywhere from 85 to 120 eggs each. They round up their ritual by filling their excavations with sand and compressing it above their laying to finally, as many others have done for millions of years before them, head back to the ocean.

Approximately 2 months later, the newborns emerge from their nests, mostly during nights, to begin their wonderful journey across the beach to the ocean water.

Egg-laying happens at our beach from April to September.

Most of the life of marine turtles goes on in ocean waters. Nevertheless, they have the need to return to land in search of sandy beaches that allow for proper embryo growth.
