We are an ecological inn because we like to enjoy the nature and to take care of it.

The black and gray waters that the hotel generates are degraded in a wetlands-system which is opened for guided visits to receive the corresponding explanation. This system allows us not to contaminate the subsoi pollution which is particularly delicate in the Yucatan Peninsula. We are also an ecological inn because we generate our own electricity by solar panels. We are an ecological inn because we recycle organic garbage to make fertilizer for our garden. We're also an ecological inn because our green areas preserve the original vegetation and we have only planted species of the region. We are an ecological inn because we have preserved the marine dune in its original dimension and we have maintained its original vegetation.

We are an ecological inn for all that and because we think that we have the responsibility of preserving nature for our future generations.

Ceiba

The Maya call it "the sacred tree of life"

This magnificent plant, which in the forest can reach a height of 40 meters, is the axis mundi of the Mayan people. It is possible to find it in the main square of every mayan town.   Previously  in the shade of the ceiba important social activities were celebrated, as for example: sacred ceremonies or exchange of merchandise.

Its branches represent the seven heavens, its trunk, hollow on the inside, represents the world essentialy  inhabited by man and his roots in the subsoil, represent the entry to the underground world inhabited by the gods. Even today tributes are made through various ceremonies.

La Ceiba represents prosperity and security that the Gods gave to their people. The quantity of leaves produced in spring indicates the degree of abundance of the harvest. In late spring, it fills with soft "balls", full of seeds, that the Mayas used to manipulate to do their pillows, blankets or bags. This year for the first time at Dos Ceibas many small ceibitas have appeared, ceibas that we give as sign of good luck to the friends who were present at the event of the " Day out of the time".
