Ceiba

We have taken our name from this sacred Maya tree. There is always a ceiba tree in the center of every Maya settlement.

This magnificent and outstanding tree that can grow up to 120 feet high is the axis mundi of the Maya folks.

Its branches represent the seven heavens; its trunk, the world inhabited by man; the roots that dig into the ground, the entrance to the underworld and its gods, many of which are still honored in a myriad of ceremonies.
